Our Commitment to Safety in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has a strong safety record when it is delivered by trained professionals, using the appropriate equipment and protocols. At OxyRenew, your safety and well-being always come first. We provide professional, evidence-based HBOT to support wellness, longevity, and surgical recovery, and we screen every client before their first session. If a session isn't right for you, we won't proceed.

Why Our Chamber Is Safer by Design

At OxyRenew, our hyperbaric chamber is pressurized using normal filtered air, while oxygen is comfortably delivered through a personal mask or cannula. Our chamber has important advantages:

  • Advanced Safety Features: Our hard-shell chamber features advanced monitoring systems—including pressure and oxygen-level sensors—to ensure a precise, stable, and secure therapeutic environment at all times.

  • Fire Safety: Our chamber is pressurized with regular, filtered air rather than oxygen, which greatly reduces the fire risk of oxygen-filled chambers. Oxygen is delivered only through your personal mask, and we follow strict guidelines on what can enter the chamber.

  • Personal Comfort and Relaxation: Since our chamber's air is regular and breathable, you can use technician-approved items during your session, including the entertainment tablet we provide. This greatly reduces anxiety or feelings of claustrophobia.

Professional Oversight and Comprehensive Safety Standards

Your safety extends beyond equipment to every detail of your experience at OxyRenew, including:

  • Certified Technicians: A Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT) is dedicated exclusively to monitoring your session, continuously tracking your comfort, safety, and the chamber environment at all times.

  • Careful Pre-Session Screening: Every client completes a safety screening before their first session, and vital-sign checks are part of our standard pre-session routine.

  • Continuous, Attentive Monitoring: You will always have a trained technician assigned only to you, in order to closely monitor the environment and maintain direct communication, ready to assist immediately if needed.

  • Controlled Environment: We carefully manage appropriate clothing and personal items, ensuring a comfortable and secure atmosphere throughout your therapy.

HBOT Risks and How We Manage Them

HBOT has known risks and side effects. We screen for them before your first session, and they are covered in the consent form you review with us.

  • Pressure changes (barotrauma): The most common side effect of HBOT is ear or sinus discomfort from pressure changes, similar to an airplane descent. Your technician teaches you equalizing techniques before your first session, pressurizes the chamber gradually, and can slow or pause the session at any time. Screening also covers rarer pressure-related risks, including lung conditions that make HBOT unsuitable.

  • Oxygen exposure: At high doses, oxygen itself can have toxic effects. Our session protocols, including scheduled air breaks, are designed to keep your exposure well within established limits.

  • Temporary vision changes: A long series of sessions can temporarily shift near and distance vision. These changes typically resolve within a few weeks, so we advise against changing an eyewear prescription during a course of sessions. Clients with existing cataracts should mention them during screening.

  • Fire safety: Oxygen supports combustion, so hyperbaric facilities follow strict rules about what enters the chamber. Pressurizing with air keeps oxygen concentration in the chamber low, and guidelines like 100% cotton clothing and our prohibited-items list support this.

  • Who should not do HBOT: Some conditions and medications are not compatible with pressurized sessions, including certain lung conditions, recent ear or sinus surgery, and some medications such as specific chemotherapy agents. Your safety screening checks for these before your first session, and the fee is covered by OxyRenew.

If the screening shows HBOT isn't right for you, we will let you know.

Why Our Air-Based Chamber is Ideal for Wellness and Recovery

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers traditionally come in two forms: chambers filled entirely with pure oxygen, and those filled with normal pressurized air supplemented by mask-delivered oxygen. Both have their uses, but they serve distinctly different purposes.

Chambers pressurized with 100% oxygen are specifically designed for medical emergencies like decompression sickness ("the bends") or gas embolisms, where the primary therapeutic goal is completely eliminating inert gas inhalation to quickly clear dangerous gas bubbles from the bloodstream. In these critical and very specific situations, this method is essential.

For longevity, athletic recovery, wellness, and post-surgical support, chambers pressurized with filtered air and mask-delivered oxygen are a well-established design. This setup allows intermittent air breaks, which take advantage of the hypoxic-hyperoxic paradox. The principles that govern oxygen absorption under pressure, Boyle's and Henry's laws, apply in both chamber types.

In other words, we use the right tool for the right job. For wellness and recovery, an air-based chamber is the appropriate design.

Oxygen Administration with Intermittent "Air Breaks"

To keep your experience comfortable during longer sessions, we provide short periods of breathing normal chamber air. This helps maintain balanced oxygen levels, keeps you feeling refreshed, and keeps your oxygen exposure within established limits.

Safety and Comfort

OxyRenew delivers hyperbaric therapy with professional-grade safety, combined with personalized comfort:

  • Private, Personalized Sessions: We host one client at a time, ensuring attentive, individualized care.

  • Hard-Shell Chamber: A rigid chamber with continuous pressure and oxygen monitoring, more stable and precise than inflatable soft-shell chambers.

  • Evidence-Based Practices: Our protocols follow published research and established hyperbaric standards.

  • Transparent Communication: Clear, honest information is paramount, ensuring you fully understand and feel comfortable about your therapy.
